A Gift From the Sea 17"x28" I was playing with doodling and this was the result. I'm not even sure what it means but I liked it. It is embellished with beads in the stars and the siphon in the sea.

Once They Were Boys 41"x45" This is based on a 1890's photo of my grandfather, his brother and their grandfather taken at the Home Place. My grandfather died a very old man in the 1970's and I find it fascinating to look back over such a long time and think about him being a child. Across the background I've embroidered a story about this being the day the boys were given their very own horsed to care for.

Outhouse View. 22"x18"If you have ever loved an outhouse you will understand that there is something wonderful about an outhouse with a view like this. This was my view from Bainbridge Island WA looking over at the Olympic mountains

The Color of Four Hands Talking 31"x26"  based on photos of my mother and her sister trying to talk at the same time

A Stand of Canna 22"x50" What stately flowers they are all guarding that farm fence. Between the leaves and the huge red flowers it was an impenetrable wall
A
Absorbed in a Good Book 20"x37" Ever have that experience of being so caught up in a book that the world around you completely changes into a place you've never been? A place where the things of everyday life disappear. All that is left is the story. Don't look away or it will vanish

Deep Fog and Elk Fence 17"x15" sometimes in the winter that is all that tells you that you are still on the road. The fog and snow have blended with the sky to obliterate everything else around.

Evening Peonies 35"x33" The sun is setting and the petals are almost spent. Tomorrow they will fall and this beauty will be gone. These petals are made individually and hand painted and embroidered. I wanted to show the heaviness of the petals as they prepared to fall off the stem.

Lady in the Red Hat 30'X32" This is a portrait of my mother taken on her 89th Birthday. She always loved this piece and got to enjoy it until she died at age 93. It really expresses who she was.

Oh! Maples Tomorrow 31"x28" If you have ever owned a prolific maple tree you will understand the beautiful curse that is seeing bunches of young maple seeds leave the tree to start a new life. The young seeds have a wonderful almost iridescent quality in their light green and rose coloring but you know the beauty is fleeting and the work of combating millions of new tree starts is just beginning

Return of the Robins 42"x31" my property in on the spring flyway and the sky is filled with layer after layer of specs that are flocks of robins, hundreds of then  will spend the day in my yard. It is a marvelous sight to see all of them coming in to let us know that spring is also coming

Sentry Quail 46"x24" outside my fence they congregate to pick bugs from the ground but there is always one who stands watch while the others eat.
